No matter how careful you are with your Brompton bike it is likely to get scratched or chipped during daily use, whether that’s from catching a muddy shoe on the top tube after a long ride or chipping the paint after accidentally knocking over the bike on some uneven pavement. Brompton’s are powder-coated – which is an incredibly durable type of paint – but hey, chips happens. But that doesn’t mean you should let the chips fall where they may, or that you should have a chip on your shoulder. Introducing our complete guide to Brompton paint. It’s all that and a bag of chips!

Touch-Ups

Sadly Brompton no longer supply touch up paint for a few reasons, the main one being that it often dried out. Luckily high quality paint is readily available, from craft model paint, car touch-up paint or even nail varnish. The important thing is that you touch-up the area to prevent oxidization or “rust.” At the very least we recommend using clear nail varnish to seal affected area.

This handy guide will give you the name and accurate colour code for each model year of bike dating back to 2015 so that you can find a good match.

But Wait… Time To Repaint?

In 2025 Brompton launched a new Cerakote process. Cerakote is a ceramic-based coating known for its exceptional durability and thinness. Originally developed for the arms industry, it offers far greater resistance to chips, scratches, and corrosion than traditional paint or powder coat. Cerakotes are very thin so it doesn’t affect precision tolerances, meaning folding mechanisms and fittings continue to operate smoothly. This also makes Cerakotes lighter, which is why Brompton launched Cerakotes on their titanium T-Line bikes exclusively.

But, Brompton isn’t from Toronto, where our city pours salt in the winter, and the roads spray up debris like a sandblaster. We think it’s cool that Cerakotes are super lightweight, but there’s good reason to use Cerakotes on all Brompton bikes. That’s why we teamed up with Red Hill Armoury, who can Cerakote any Brompton for a very reasonable price. Best of all, when you get your Brompton Cerakoted, you get a complete overhaul in the meantime, including new frame bushings throughout. You can learn more here!
