What is Ackerman Steering? We’re glad you asked! With three wheels on the ground, a cargo trike is always more stable than a cargo bike. That makes it safer, right? Yes and no. The problem with most cargo trikes is that the steering is so heavy, so primitive, and so non-reactionary that they’re scary to use in traffic. Most cargo bikes use pivot steering – where the whole box steers, including all the stuff you’re carrying! But, the IBEX uses Ackerman Steering. Basically, the same steering as a car: both front wheels steer – nothing else. Hardly revolutionary, except it is. With the IBEX you get the handling of a two wheeler with the stability of a three wheeler. That’s fundamental.
