Koby Barhad has been a close friend and a presence at Pedaal since our earliest days. He’s a cyclist, coffee aficionado, and someone who shares our values around movement and the quiet politics of city cycling. Earlier this year, he designed a blue and pink sticker set for us which was playful and fun. But, his new work, part of the Different Ride series, moves in a more contemplative direction.
This series turns toward something darker, more speculative. At its core lies a disquieting question: who – and what – gets to be seen as a legal person? The series explores the shifting boundaries of recognition and protection, drawing unexpected connections between animals, ecosystems, machines, and the bodies that navigate urban space.
Rendered with crisp lines and gorgeous colour, these illustrations linger in a space between fiction and documentary. It evokes a world not entirely unlike our own – just slightly tilted, more uncertain, more exposed.
Koby’s broader practice is rooted in design, research, and critical speculation. A graduate of the Royal College of Art and co-founder of the Radical Norms lab at OCAD University, his work has been exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, Z33, and the Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts, and featured in Artforum, Wired, and Fast Company. He brings to each project a rare combination of technical clarity and philosophical depth.
This limited edition print – available exclusively at Pedaal – is an extension of that vision. It’s a reflection on identity, agency, and the strange entanglements that define contemporary life. We’re honoured to share it.
