Behind the Scenes: How Bromptons Reach Canada
Being a Brompton retailer in Canada is… complicated. Brompton ships from two warehouses, and neither of them are in Canada. In the US, retailers can grab bikes from the Brompton USA warehouse and have them within a week. We can too, but we pay duties, shipping, and exchange rates.
Our other option is the UK. But Brompton doesn’t actually warehouse finished bikes there – they build to order – so delivery takes about two months, plus shipping. And one more wrinkle: every autumn Brompton re-tools the factory for the next model year, which means UK availability often disappears for several weeks.
Total Transparency: See Every Brompton Headed Our Way
Rather than keep you in the dark, we’ve built something no other shop has. We hacked together a way to pull the live stock feed from Brompton USA’s dealer site (normally invisible to consumers) and broadcast it right on our own site, alongside the bikes we have in hand and the ones we’ve already ordered from the UK. We even flag confirmed incoming bikes with a green “on the way” button, so you can decide if you’d rather wait a few weeks or grab one from the US in just 1–2 weeks. No other shop in Canada – and not even Brompton themselves – gives you this level of visibility.
How Our Pre-Order System Works
On each pre-order page you’ll see whether a bike is on the way, in stock at Brompton USA or the UK, and the estimated lead time. If you’d like to reserve one, just place a $500 deposit. We’ll personally follow up within 24 hours to confirm your order, answer any questions, and add accessories if you’d like them included.
Only once you’ve confirmed do we place the order with Brompton. Until then, your deposit is fully refundable. After confirmation, it can still be used as store credit. This way, you get first dibs on your dream Brompton without risk or guesswork.
