Dak Coffee – Purple Rain

Purple Rain is not a subtle name, but then again, this is not a subtle coffee. It is an anaerobic natural from Layo Station in Guji, Ethiopia, where whole cherries are fermented without oxygen before being slowly dried on raised beds. The process draws out an extraordinary amount of fruit, but what makes the coffee interesting is how strangely specific that fruit becomes; wild berries, dark purple fruit and perfumed florals all gather around the same colour. This is Dak at its most playful, taking an already expressive Ethiopian coffee and pushing it somewhere louder, stranger and considerably more fun.
