In 1975, Andrew Ritchie sketched out what he called the “bike of the future.” Fast forward fifty years, and Brompton is celebrating that invention with the 1975 Edition, a special 50th anniversary release limited to just 1,975 bikes worldwide. Pedaal is proud to announce that we will be one of just two Canadian retailers offering this gorgeous machine.

Half a Century of Craft, Two Decades in Canada

For Brompton, this anniversary marks five decades of design excellence, hand-built craftsmanship, and a global community of riders who see the folding bicycle as a tool and as a way of life.

For Pedaal, this milestone also feels personal. After all, the owners of Pedaal were directly involved in importing Brompton into Canada as far back as 2006. Over the years, nearly half of Brompton’s 50-year journey has been shared with us, and we’re proud to have helped bring these London-made bicycles to Canadian streets, parks, offices, and homes for more than 20 years.

Heat, Brass, and Glory

The 1975 Edition captures the essence of Brompton’s history and its forward-looking spirit. It’s also an absolute stunner to behold. The Thermal Fade lacquer frame with shimmering gold accents give a nod to the artistry of the brazing process.

Each bike includes one of 1,975 Brompton Brazer’s Coins, individually stamped with the initials of a factory brazer in London. This is a tribute to the 52 expert craftspeople who continue to build every single Brompton by hand.

The Alchemy of Brompton

The signature thermal fade and gold highlights of the 1975 Edition reflect colours that emerge around the bright gold joints of a Brompton frame in the minutes following brazing. In this transformational process, metals fuse and cool to form a structure that is strong enough to last a lifetime.

Each brazer’s work develops a distinct style over time, as unique as handwriting. The 1975 Edition features a robust, three-part, semi-transparent coloured lacquer that lets the bright gold shine through.

Collector’s Bike, Commuter’s Machine

Beyond its collectible details, this bike rides beautifully, designed for both everyday commuting and special-occasion cruising.. The 1975 Edition comes with a 12-speed drivetrain, Continental cream-wall tires, and Brompton’s signature compact fold, making it as practical on a weekday commute as it is iconic as a collector’s piece.

Additional features include the 1975 Edition saddle with an integrated carry handle, gold-anodized cranks, and anniversary monogram decals throughout. At the same time, the finishing touches—from the Disco Silver forks to the ColourLab gold touchpoints—help to set this bike apart visually, while still staying true to Brompton’s identity as the gold standard in folding bicycles.

1 of 1,975: Own a Piece of History

Like all special editions, the 1975 Edition will appreciate in value year over year. It’s not unusual for special edition Bromptons to sell for four times it’s original worth. With only 1,975 available worldwide, and a very limited allocation for Canada, this anniversary release is as rare as it gets.
